- Slim pouches are long and thin, the most common format today.
- Regular pouches are wider and hold a bit more.
- Mini pouches are small and discreet.
- Format affects fit and feel; strength is set by the mg.
The Three Common Formats
| Format | Shape | Feel | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Slim | Long and thin | Discreet, sits flat | Most people; all-day use |
| Regular | Wider and fuller | More noticeable, more surface | People who like a fuller pouch |
| Mini | Short and small | Very discreet | Shorter sessions |
Most of the tins we carry are slim pouches. ZAR's AirPouch is an extra-thin version of the slim format.
Does Format Change Strength?
Not by itself. The strength is the nicotine per pouch, shown in mg on each tin. A slim 6 mg and a regular 6 mg contain the same nicotine; they just feel different. See What strength should I choose?.
Fit and Comfort
Fit is personal. A slim pouch follows the curve of the gum and is easy to forget about, which is why it's the most popular shape. Some people find a wider regular pouch more satisfying because it holds more material against the gum. If you have a small mouth or want something very discreet, a mini or an extra-thin pouch like ZAR's AirPouch is worth a try.
Moist vs Dry
Some pouches feel slightly moist and release flavour quickly; drier pouches start slower and last longer. The tin's label usually doesn't say, so the easiest way to find your preference is to try two or three brands in one order.
Quick Tips
- Choose your strength first (the mg), then the format.
- Switch sides of your mouth between pouches.
- Store tins closed and away from heat so pouches don't dry out.
